About Gary Pilafas

Trustee Gary Pilafas is running for re-election in this year's municipal election for the Village of Hoffman Estates and is ready to continue serving our community once again as a member of our Board of Trustees. Trustee Gary Pilafas has been a resident of the Hoffman Estates community since 1995 and plays a crucial role in our village as it pertains to Hoffman Estates' financial state, economic growth, public health & safety, and much more.

Gary has served in the Village of Hoffman Estates as the Chair/Chairperson/Chairman of many committees and commissions that include the following:

  • Finance Committee
  • Platzkonzert Committee
  • Capital Improvements Board
  • Emerging Technology Advisory Commission
  • Economic Development Commission
  • Sustainability Committee

In addition to the committees/commissions he has led, Gary has been closely involved with many of the following committees, commissions, and organizations:

  • Public Health & Safety Committee

Professionally, Gary works as a Senior Solutions Engineer for VMware - a leading provider of multi-cloud services for all apps, enabling digital innovation with enterprise control. As a Senior Solutions Engineer, Gary enables his customers to innovate faster by focusing on modernizing data centers, empowering the digital workspace, integrating public clouds, and transforming security. Gary supports VMware's Enterprise Customers by presenting a software-defined view to help them realize their goals for IT innovation.

In addition to his extensive resume, Trustee Gary Pilafas also served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 8 years, working as a helicopter mechanic and fighting in The Gulf War (Desert Storm & Desert Shield). Gary is proud to have served for our country as a Marine and is proud to call himself a citizen of our great nation. Gary's love for our nation fuels his excitement for serving our village as he continues to lead our community to greatness. After his honorable discharge from the military, Gary would eventually go on to lead the Winston Knolls Homeowners Association as the Vice President and Treasurer and serve on the Palatine Township Plan Committee.

Gary is married to his wife, Michelle, and they have been together in marriage for over 27 years. Gary and Michelle have four sons - Austin (AJ), Joshua, Jonathan, and Caleb. The Pilafas family are members of Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, IL and have been members of their church community as a since its beginnings in the late 1980s and mid-1990s. The entire family is deeply rooted in Hoffman Estates, and every member of the Pilafas household is proud to consider themselves residents of Hoffman Estates, IL.
